Feel the OM!

2020 is finally coming to an end. While it’s not easy to sum the year up in one word, it seems the general consensus on Twitter is that it’s, well, not the best.

The Youth Development team feels the same, and so on 28 November 2020, we put together “Feel the OM” with the Mass Prayer Group (MPG)!

“Feel the OM” is our first collaboration with MPG. Through this project, we wanted to benefit more people by helping all of us to learn to relax even if it’s only for an hour — MPG is one of the monastery’s most popular initiatives, having amassed over 1,000 participants in just one month! — and pray for the good health of everyone amid these uncertain times.

Feel the OM

At 8 pm, Venerable Jon opened the session with a quick run through of what participants can expect during the programme. Then, we explored the significance of OM with Venerable Ben Si, who also shared a true story on how the Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva helped a fellow practitioner out of a dangerous situation. Later, Venerable Ben Si guided us on a short meditation segment and we relaxed to soothing music played from the tank drum. Finally, Si Xuan and Zoey led us as we chanted the Medicine Buddha Mantra before Venerable Jon concluded the programme.
