S1: Filial Piety
We kicked off the session by asking the Secondary 1 students a simple question: "What is filial piety to you?" They shared cool responses like 'appreciating parents,' 'showing respect,' and 'being grateful.'
Next, we dove into reading a story called "The Buddha's Teaching On The Difficulty In Repaying The Deep Kindness Of Parents (Filial Piety Sutra)." While we told the story, the students answered questions using a Polling system. To spice things up, we also showed them a video about a 'Childbirth Pain Simulator,' which gives you an idea of what it's like for moms during labor.
In a nutshell, we mixed storytelling, questions, and a bit of a reality check to help the students understand the importance of appreciating and respecting their parents. The goal was to make them think about how awesome their moms and dads are and to be grateful for the sacrifices they make.
Before we moved on to the next part of "The Buddha's Teaching On The Difficulty In Repaying The Deep Kindness Of Parents (Filial Piety Sutra)," the Secondary 1 students enjoyed watching a heartwarming video titled "Value of Mother." This touching video showcased a mom's hidden compassion for her son.
Throughout the session, the students openly shared what they have done or plan to do to show gratitude and repay their parents. To wrap up the lesson, we concluded with another video highlighting the various struggles a dad goes through to make his daughter happy.
In essence, this session left the students with a valuable lesson on the importance of filial piety. They gained insights into how they can aspire to repay the deep kindness of their parents, appreciating the love and sacrifices that moms and dads make for their children.
