A lesson on letting go
Lim Yan Ning shares something she learnt from moving into her new place.
People are usually excited about moving into a new place.
Not me, though.
When I received news that my new place was ready to move into, I recall feeling quite stressed over it:
What do I need?
What should I throw?
What if I experience supernatural occurrences at my new home?
My Dharma class monitor, Ms Jennifer Goh, learnt about my concerns and shared these words of wisdom:
“As you sort through your items, give thanks to each one that you are going to throw away for serving you well these years.
“For your new place, acknowledge your presence in the house to the seen and unseen, let it be known that you will be staying put, and make prayers so that everything will be smooth.”
It was an inspiring new perspective I had not considered prior to my chat with her! I followed my monitor’s advice, and, indeed, it took the stress away and the entire process became much more enjoyable for me.
