My bike broke down on a night cycling trip
Desmond Ser shares an encounter with the Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva on a night cycling trip!
One night as I was riding home, my bicycle broke down halfway through the journey. It was impossible for me to leave my bicycle and take a cab home, so I decided to try my luck with the HDBs nearby, hoping to find a household with a wrench.
My first attempt was unsuccessful. Even though the family had a bicycle parked outside their unit, they didn’t have the right tools at home to help me. Dismayed, I moved on to the next household.
In the next house, I spied a statue of the Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva smiling compassionately from the altar. I had a good feeling about this family and knocked on the door.
Luck was on my side! This family not only had a wrench but the owner was also able to help me fix my broken bicycle too! As I thanked them, I took another glance at the compassionate Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva and gave my thanks silently.
