A very Zen Youth Day

What better way to mark Youth Day than by learning a new life skill from the Sangha? ⁣

⁣BW Monastery's longest-running youth class, 16Z051Y, celebrated Youth Day today with Venerable Jen, who guided us in detail how we can take our breathing techniques up a notch! ⁣

⁣The session was originally planned for 45 minutes, but upon our request the compassionate Venerable agreed to extend it to become a 2-hour session because she could see how much we were enjoying it and wanted to help us even more ⁣

⁣Many of our classmates found the breathing technique -- or mindful breathing -- to be very relaxing and helps us to concentrate better. By having to focus on our breathing, some of us started noticing the many thoughts and distractions stemming from our five senses. Of course, some of us found ourselves dozing off although we might have initially thought we were focusing well! We felt a little discouraged at first, but kind Venerable Jen encouraged us by saying this is a good sign too, because our body truly feels relaxed ⁣

⁣Happy Youth Day!

Class I

Class I is the longest-running youth class in BW Monastery, having launched in 2009. Under the guidance of Jennifer and Sebastian, many of its members have grown to become youth leaders across the monastery, realising their aspirations to follow in the footsteps of great sages from the past.
